Abstract
A 10-year-old male Maltese was referred to Chungbuk National University Veterinary Medical Center with nasal bleeding and oral masses. Left upper gingiva was swollen up and several masses were confirmed. Radiographically bony calcification were recognized in forward of the left orbit with increased density of soft tissue. There was no radiological evidence to suggest additional tumorous change in other bones. At necropsy, several firm masses ranging from approximately 0.7cm to 5cm in diameter were noted around the palate and gum. Nasal cavity was also infiltrated with the mass in transverse section. Microscopically ovoid to spindle-shaped neoplastic cells produced homogenous eosinophilic osteoids with cellular pleomorphism, nuclear hyperchromatism, frequent mitotic figures and increased nucleus/cytoplasm ratio. In immunohistochemistry, neoplastic cells exhibiting cytoplasmic immunoreactivity against osteonectin were demonstrated. Based on the radiological, histopathological and immunohistochemical findings, this case was diagnosed as productive osteoblastic osteosarcoma.
